Lucky Cat (Zoë Baxter) Broadcaster / DJ / Artist

Collecting records since age 12, Lucky Cat started DJing at parties in 2000 and then pro- gressed to hosting her own club nights with friends in South London (Messy and Lucky Cat). In 2005 she made her debut on Resonance FM radio station and has since made 13 series of Lucky Cat and 4 series of Lucky Cat’s Sound System Stories (an oral history of sound system culture in the UK and beyond). A passionate broadcaster, she has also contributed mixes to the BBCs cult programme On the Wire and Soho Radio.

In 2016 Lucky Cat founded an all-female Reggae DJ collective – Sisters of Reggae. The collective of 5 DJs and 1 MC gigged all over the world and encouraged other women to get behind the decks with their popular Female DJ Relay Nights with promoter Outer- globe. After a fantastic 5 years, in 2021 Zoë disbanded Sisters of Reggae and continued with her passion for Reggae music, which now included art and illustration work along- side broadcasting and DJing.

Zoë curates a monthly residency – Lucky Cat’s Sound System Nights – at Pop Brixton. This monthly party celebrates sound system culture with a different theme and special guest selectors from the scene each month. It is a 100% vinyl event.

Lucky Cat collects a wide range of musical genres – all on vinyl – but true to her South London roots Reggae is her first love! In 2019 she competed in 2 Reggae DJ clashes Tradition’s Old Hits Clash (Nottingham) and the Lover’s Rock and Revival Clash (London).

As a solo DJ she has played in Switzerland, Ireland and Germany and specialises in ‘60s and 70s styles of Reggae music.
